Snapshot Quilt finds a wall

I picked up my quilted "Snapshots Along" quilt from the machine quilter the end of June.  It only took another six weeks to convince my hubby to help me hang it on the wall.

I decided that the stairwell was the perfect place for this quilt.  I have had the wooden quilt hanger for 25 years.  It held a Broken Star quilt that my grandmother had pieced back in the 1930's.  I decided that this lovely historical quilt deserved a rest.  When I brought the quilt hanger to our Provo home but it was a bit too wide for the stairwell.  Finally I was able to convince the hubby to saw off one end and put it up on the wall.

Yep!  The perfect place for a narrow longish quilt.  This quilt makes me so happy!

The wooden hanger is two boards with a groove in the back one.  There are handmade wooden screws which fit in holes in the front and back boards.  These are then tightened to hold the quilt tight. The little grands love looking at it.

Snapshots Quilt Along quilt top finished!

I really enjoyed this 2015 quilt along.  Each month, another "snapshots" pattern was released.  Participants could download the patterns for free but were encouraged to donate to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital instead.  Donations finished at over $60,000.

I had a great time arranging my quilt top in the best way with a good distribution of colors.  Most of the fabric used was from fabric lines by Bonnie & Camille.

I did not use all of the patterns.  I moved the camera block to the front and made up the mixing bowl and spoon block to replace another.

I used the camera to make a label for the front.

I included the quote by my grandson, Oscar, who was especially intrigued by this project.  The black cat is in honor of his cat, Scratch.

So once again, it is time for what I find to be the hardest part.  The quilting!  I'm on the lookout for a backing fabric and contemplating turning this one over to a long arm quilter.

Grandma, you can sew pictures

I have been participating in the Fat Quarter Shop sponsored Snapshots Sew Along during 2015.  Each month on the 15th day a new pattern is released.  Those using the patterns are encouraged to donate to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.

I loved these big blocks of snapshots so quickly joined in.  January was a fancy cake and February a sewing machine.

By March, I began to take individual snapshots of my "snapshots."

Once this puppy landed on my bulletin board, my five year old grandson was on board.  During a sleepover at breakfast he suddenly exclaimed, "Grandma, you can sew pictures!"

He was right, I was sewing pictures and I loved the way they brightened up my sewing area.

April found me sewing an apron with April Showers fabric from Bonnie and Camille forming the outside ruffle.  The original Snapshots Quilt was created from their fabric line Sail Away.  I decided to make my snapshots from my leftovers of all my Bonnie and Camille fabrics.

And now there were five,

June brought us an ice cream sundae.

And there were six and the bulletin board was full!

So I started over with a hot air balloon for July.

A fat tired bicycle in August.

And much to my grandson's surprise, a black cat modeled after his cat Scratch in September.  This has been a fun project.  Just three more to go!
