Sadie's baptism quilt

My grand daughter, Ruby, approached me a few months ago with a problem.  Her younger sister, Sadie, would be turning eight and would need a "baptism quilt."

Ruby had received a "baptism quilt" when she turned eight from a close family friend and the mother of one of Ruby's mother's best friends.

Unfortunately, Kay had just passed away after a years long fight against cancer and it was a very sad time for all who knew and loved her including my grand daughters.

Ruby's request, "Grandma, do you think you could make Sadie a baptism quilt."  "Of course," I said.

I had already gotten a great deal on a fat quarter bundle of April Showers by Bonnie and Camille which I decided to use for this quilt.  The fabric line, Country Girls, coordinated well with April Showers so I bought a yard of the focus fabric and fussy cut it for the centers of each block.

I used a white on white fabric for the blocks and some Fig Tree cream I had on hand for the sashing.  When it came time for a border, I found the above fabric located near the Country Girl line which seemed to pull it all together.

Ruby's quilt from Kay had included minky for the back which Ruby especially loved, so I purchased green for Sadie's back.

When first making the blocks, I had included this one, but then used the Scrumptious print (also by Bonnie and Camille) in the secondary block.  I set this one aside but used it later for a label on the back.

There were scraps of strip sets left over so I also made Sadie a quilt for her dolls.

One for Sadie and one for her dolls.

She was happy and cozy.

I can't believe that she will be eight.  I will travel to Arizona in a month for her baptism day.  I am so blessed to have Sadie and her concerned sister, Ruby, in my life.
