Happy Easter from my house to yours. Today at church, two speakers shared an Easter memory or two from their childhood. It took me back to Idaho where I was the oldest of six children, the youngest being born when I was just 7 years old. My parents farmed as well as held down other jobs and money was often tight. I always thought it would be so cool to receive an Easter basket all my own. We usually received just one container of common treats, but always had new church clothes to wear which my mother had sewn.
One year, probably about when I was 7, I could tell that my busy mother had put forth extra effort to make the day special. When we woke up, there was a bunny cake. It was made from two round layer cakes which had been cut into pieces and then reassembled and frosted. It was decorated with string licorice and other candy.
It looked something like this and I loved it. I knew she had stayed up after we were in bed to make this special surprise.
My son posted this picture on his blog. My new favorite picture of our Easter egg hunt. To see more go here.
And last and most important, I love this picture by Liz Swindle. Peter and James are depicted running to the tomb of the Savior having heard that He is no longer there. For that, I am forever grateful. He is Risen! His atonement and the resurrection are for us all. Watch here.
That is a very sweet story about your mom, I am glad you have such strong memories of your childhood. I hope your day went well!
